Join your neighbours and ‘Howl for Heroes’ at 7.00pm on Halloween Night
A Harrogate businessman is reinstalling some fun into Halloween and acknowledging the NHS, who are supporting us during this terrible time.
Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director at IT Recruitment Company, Corecom Consulting and Harrogate resident, has come up with a socially distanced alternative to Trick or Treating, which he has named ‘Howl for Heroes’. The concept is similar to the recognition that communities gave to the NHS and those working in the community during lockdown through clapping on their doorsteps, but with a spooky spin. Every household shall stand together at their front door at 7.00pm (an hour earlier than the usual time so that young children can join in too) on Halloween night and perform a synchronised ‘howl’ to the anticipated blue moon. Jonathan said:
“My children, along with so many others, are disappointed that the traditional evening of our local community in Harrogate coming together trick or treating will not be able to happen due to Covid-19.
“Howl for Heroes is a socially distanced, fun (and noisy) alternative to coming together on the evening and recognising the hard work of the NHS who are continuing to support those suffering with the illness.”
Jonathan has had numerous award shortlists for his outstanding leadership and support for charities and the community, so it’s no surprise that he’s come up with something that will bring communities together.
As an added extra, Corecom Consulting is inviting people to donate their usual few pounds spent on trick or treating to charity via Virgin Money Giving. Money raised will be given to the Leeds Healthy Holidays Fund in support of vulnerable school children and their families to address holiday hunger.
So, get ready to ‘Howl for Heroes’ – what a sound it will create on Halloween night; a howl that could go down in history.

My hope for the future is to experience women in technology as the norm. The early stages of my career in tech were shaped by women and I feel very privileged to count some of the best women in technology in my network of close contacts and friends. However, I know this isn’t the case for many women in the sector, who find themselves outnumbered by the opposite sex. Anything I can do to challenge the current norm and break the stigma for Women in Technology, I will do.
